Roman Provincial

ARABIA, Philippopolis. Philip II. AD 247-249. Æ (28mm, 15.91 g, 6h). Struck at Antioch, circa AD 247-249. Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Roma or Allat seated left on shield, holding two figures standing on eagle and spear. Spijkerman 37; Rosenberger –; SNG ANS 1408. Near VF, dark green patina.

The two figures likely represent Philip’s parents. His father, Julius Marinus, was deified by the emperor and his bust is featured on coinage of this series struck for Philippopolis at Antioch.
